      Does it have trouble dropping into the smaller chainrings while on the bike? Or climbing up into the bigger gears? Another words which direction does it hesitate or not shift into gear? If it has problems shifting into bigger gears apply more tension at the barrel adjuster. If it has problems shifting onto smaller gears release cable tension or give it slack.

    I tried the first one (it seemed like it was exactly what I needed to do) but it didn't help much. The derailleur moves more now, out not enough to shift up. Any ideas what my problem could be?

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher 20 днів тому

      Many variables. There may slack in the cable somewhere. Try starting from the beginning. Release the cable pinch bolt and set the low limit screw first with the shifter relaxed (gear 1).then connect cable, pull taught with fingers only. Make sure all housing is seating completely at every junction first.

      Rim brakes? Follow the cable and housing from brake to lever and make sure all housing ends are seated fully. Anytime the cable has play is is loose that gives the housing a chance to fall out of place.

    The issue which i found someone post about on bike exchange, is the disk brakes. They add force which moves up into forks, then down into hub and QR. Causing it to come loose. I've had my front wheel come off, luckily uphill and i flew over the bars into a hill on the side of the road catching my fall. Could've been disasterous 😬

    • @BikeTeacher

      Make sure the fork dropouts are in good shape, not bent, decent metal-not soft meta tor playable. replace the quick release with a well know quality one. Confirm good tension when closing.

      Typically your skin will tear before the tube or tire comes close to tearing. Just be careful with tire levers if getting aggressive on a deep dish carbon rim.

      @@BikeTeacher no, not the locking of the cassette. You are right, 40nm is the right torque for the cassette locking. I was referring to the freehub, with the 15mm allen tool, shimano says that the freehub should the tighten between 147 and 200nm

    My barrel adjuster is moving my whole brake cable, it seems like the housing is a little broken and stuck in the barrel adjuster, any solution?

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher 20 днів тому

      Sounds like the cable housing end cap (ferule cap) is jammed inside the barrel adjuster. Take pressure of the brake cable, assuming you have this, open the quick release for the brake. The use two pliers to hold one (housing) and spin the other, adjuster. Note the is a locking (dial). Break that free and them the barrel adjuster will follow.

    How to adjust the low-limit screw: Video #1. 15 long minutes of guys going over roots and rocks. but NO INFO about whether to turns the screw CW or CCW. Video #2. talk talk talk with no close up of the actual screw, just a guy talking about some other subject for a half hour. This video: A blurry closse up of the guy's head. 7 minuttes long. Nothing showing adjusment of the low limit. Does anyone know of a video that shows the low-limit adjustment? It only needs to be abour 30 seconds. CCW out? CW in or opposite? That's all I need.

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher 20 днів тому

      Sorry about that. That's one of my shittier videos with a talentless friend. I have better ones on the channel . Although you probably found the info by now. Screwing either screw down and in (CW) will reduce derailleur rang of motion. If you are struggling to get to gear 1 due to Low limit screw. Turn the L limit screw out CCW. this will make room for the derailleur to move more freely and get to gear one. Just be careful and don't over adjust. Going into the spokes can be catastrophic.

    This will never work for the new crop of Transmission cassettes. The lock barrel is significantly tighter than older SRAM cassettes. Even with a 12" ratchet on the cassette tool, the lock tube won't turn easily, let alone using finger pressure to get the cassette started.

      You’re right, The XD has no independent lock ring. And turning from start to finish has constantly resistance.
